9:00-9:50: Triple
Play Market and Investment Outlook
As
Verizon and AT&T roll out their new IPTV services,
traditional telco and cable models are in uproar. Single-service
providers --particularly telephony providers -- can't
survive in the face of bruising competition and plummeting
prices. The Holy Grail is Triple Play and Quadruple
Play services -- the wedding of telephony, high-speed
Internet, television and, increasingly wireless. Who
has the upper hand: cable companies or telcos? Will
consumers balk at bigger bills? What infrastructure
and services show the most market and investment promise.

10:30-11:20:
Creating
the Quadruple and Quintuple Play
Cable
companies and telcos are increasingly turning from the
$99 Triple Play package of voice, broadband and TV to
the quadruple play: a package that includes wireless.
Last month, for example, Comcast, Time Warner, Cox Communications
and Advance/Newhouse Communications announced they were
forming a joint venture with Sprint Nextel to offer
wireless telephone service. Meanwhile, Cingular and
parent AT&T are experimenting with their own wireless
services. Add satellite providers, mobile TV and dual-mode
WiFi phones to the mix, create new interactive services
-- and you have an entirely new package of services
to offer. Who wins?

11:45-12:40: The
Wireless Wild Card
The
explosion of mobile data and WiFi is a disruptive force
that may determine the winners and losers in the race
to control consumer mindshare. IPTV is coded in the
same IMS format as mobile television;advanced WiFi services
will soon enable consumers to transfer VOD from their
computers to their HDTV sets, TiVos and iPods. Consumers
will go with companies that offer them the most seamless
transition between outside and inside, between 3G and
WiFi, and between WiMax and IPTV. A look at how wireless
plays into the plans of telcos and cable companies.

IPTV:
Promise and Perils
Verizon
and AT&T are rolling out IPTV networks they claim
will offer nearly limitless channels, interactivity
and seamless integration with telephony and broadband.
Is their technology ready for prime time? Can it be
explained in a way consumers understand? And, most importantly,
can it be offered to consumers at attractive enough
price points to lure them away from deeply entrenched
cable and satellite providers?
